Tesira provides reliable, scalable audio processing for lecture capture through the power of AVB/TSN

BEAVERTON, Oregon — Biamp Systems, a leading provider of innovative, networked media systems, today announced that its award-winning Tesira® platform is driving the audio digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities for Boston University’s School of Law. Tesira provides pristine audio quality, and the flexibility of AVB/TSN technology enables the high-quality audio processing required for webcasting throughout the Sumner M. Redstone Building and Law Tower.

BU Law School 2

Established in 1872, Boston University School of Law is a top-tier program with a faculty recognized nationally for its exceptional teaching and preeminent scholarship. Providing its students with a cutting-edge learning experience, the university built a new 93,000-square-foot, five-story addition to its 17-story Law Tower and completed a full-scale renovation of the original structure. Each of the new Sumner M. Redstone Building’s classrooms, practice courtrooms, and seminar rooms are equipped with AV technology that enables instructors to capture their lessons and make them available for students via their mobile devices.

Audio and video signals are sent to a control room, where AV operators monitor and record classes and facilitate videoconferencing capabilities. Needing a highly flexible, scalable, and reliable system that could meet the project’s extensive channel count without adding the expense of an analog audio switcher, system integrator HB Communications selected the advanced Tesira solution.

BU Law School

Utilizing Tesira’s SpeechSense™ and AmbientSense™, the technologies more accurately distinguish between human speech and ambient room noise, significantly increasing the school’s audio capture quality. Tesira also provides extensive audio processing, including signal routing and mixing, equalization, filtering, dynamics, and delay; as well as control, monitoring, and diagnostic tools to ensure flawless audio capture that is essential to providing cutting-edge academic leadership.

“Moving the audio signal routing at Boston University to Tesira not only allowed us to accommodate the additional rooms needing capture capabilities in the Law Tower, but it also saved the university money by eliminating the need for an analog switcher,” said Michael Dodge, senior systems design engineer at HB Communications. “With a system this size that is used every day, there are several potential failure points. With Biamp’s Tesira, we were able to reduces this risk significantly.”
