Buffalo Niagara Convention Center Receives Audio Upgrade with Vocia® and Audia® Products
Posted on Tuesday, April 19, 2011

BEAVERTON, Oregon — Biamp® Systems, a leading provider of innovative, networked media systems that power the world's most sophisticated AV installations, today announced the large-scale installation of the company's Vocia and Audia products as part of the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center's $8 million renovation. Vocia, a network-based critical paging system, and Audia, a professionally installed network-enabled audio system, were installed by Ronco Specialized Systems to provide the convention center with a state-of-the-art, flexible critical paging and sound distribution system.

Erie County in New York State decided to renovate the thirty-year-old convention center, upgrading both the exterior and interior, which included incorporating a new paging system that spanned more than 186,000 square feet and ran through multiple floors and rooms. The new system needed to be flexible and streamlined, with zone paging to support multiple events when the exhibit hall is divided. Additionally, the building needed an updated sound distribution system to replace the previous obsolete equipment. The convention center also required that local AV sources, such as laptops and MP3 players, be plugged into the system from various locations within the exhibit hall. This system needed to serve the convention center's meeting rooms, ballrooms and lobby (21 rooms in total), while seamlessly integrating with the new critical paging system.

Partnering with IBC Engineering, Ronco selected an audio solution that met the current and future needs of the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. The installation team worked to outfit the main exhibit hall, which can accommodate up to 7,000 people, with paging microphones located throughout the hall, administrative offices, loading dock office and main reception desk. The team also installed auxiliary input jacks at strategic locations where a mixing board could be connected with the Vocia system to reinforce the sound. Additionally, forty-eight ceiling speakers and two wall-mounted Vocia controllers were installed so staff could easily page during events. The Vocia system was integrated with the new lighting system for seamless source selection. Likewise, the Vocia components and the Audia components were quickly integrated, creating a complete solution package.

"The Buffalo Niagara Convention Center installation is the perfect example of how network-based AV and critical paging systems can improve an exhibitor's experience and create an environment where people want to host events," said Ron Camden, Biamp Systems' Vice President of North American Sales. "We're very pleased Biamp products were included in the renovation and look forward to seeing the technology successfully take the convention center into the future."

After finishing the project, the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center now offers its exhibitors a zone-specific audio system that supports paging, background music and high-quality AV capabilities. The system offers maximum input and output flexibility, while supporting future scalability.

"This installation project required a sophisticated, yet flexible solution that would support multiple AV sources and paging zones, plus system expansion if the convention center added different technologies. That's why we selected Biamp's Vocia and Audia systems," said Al Colucci, Account Manager in the Specialized Systems sales group of Ronco Specialized Systems. "Biamp is known for quality and reliability, making their Vocia and Audia systems the right fit for the job."

Paul Murphy, Facilities Director for the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center echoed Colucci's statement, "We are extremely happy with the results of the partnership between the convention center, Ronco and Biamp. We now have a consolidated, state-of-the-art sound system that handles our needs regardless of how the space is used. Plus, we now have an integrated critical paging system."
