Professor of Secondary and Special Education receives esteemed teaching award

Rockleigh, NJ – June 28, 2017 – Crestron awarded Professor Richard Wolfson of Montclair State University with the Summum Bonum Award for Excellence in Teaching during a special awards ceremony in New York City. The award recognizes the crucial mentoring role that teachers play in the academic and personal development of students. Crestron’s Executive Director of Product Marketing, Jeff Singer, presented Professor Wolfson with a commemorative plaque, recognizing his long-term commitment to his students, education, and technology.

Crestron, a global leader in communication and control technologies, is committed to innovation through education and created the award to celebrate passionate educators. Latin for “highest good,” Summum Bonum is an expression used in philosophy to describe the ideal we should all strive for: to provide the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people.

Professor Wolfson is renowned for his passionate and inventive approach to teaching Secondary and Special Education. He has a strong connection with his department as well as his students.

In addition to being a forward-thinking Professor specializing in Educational Technology, Wolfson was a close personal friend of late Crestron founder, George Feldstein. The two met at a social gathering where Professor Wolfson mentioned a technical problem he was having at Montclair State University. Mr. Feldstein gave him his card and told Richard to call him personally to discuss the matter further. Mr. Feldstein offered to personally help find a solution and the two became life-long friends.

Mr. Feldstein nominated Professor Wolfson for the Summum Bonum award shortly before his passing in 2014. During his acceptance speech, Professor Wolfson payed to tribute to Mr. Feldstein as both a legendary technologist and world-class friend. To this day, Richard keeps Mr. Feldstein’s card in his wallet so he can think of him each and every day.

“We applaud Professor Wolfson for his contributions to Montclair State University and his students,” said Roger Takacs, Education Programs Director at Crestron. “Richard has dedicated his career to his student’s success by transforming teaching and learning through technology. We recognize and applaud Mr. Wolfson for his dedication to his career and his strides to advance education.”
