MOSCOW - Jul 30, 2013: Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open, standards-based unified communications and collaboration (UC&C), today announced Russia's national telecommunications operator Rostelecom has selected Polycom® RealPresence® Experience (RPX™ series) immersive telepresence suites and the Polycom® RealPresence® Platform for video infrastructure, to streamline operations and increase productivity across its headquarters and seven regional offices in Russia.
Rostelecom provides integrated telecom solutions including local and intra-zone telephone services, international long-distance and domestic long-distance services, mobile voice, data, broadband Internet access and pay-TV services to more than 100 million subscribers across Russia. With a distributed workforce, Rostelecom wanted to increase communication and collaboration while reducing the amount of travel its employees undertake. Working with Polycom partner NVision, a leading developer of unique ICT solutions and services, Rostelecom has deployed seven new Polycom® RPX™ suites in offices around Russia to improve collaboration and employee engagement throughout the company and reduce travel costs between locations. The RPX™ is a fully immersive, all-inclusive meeting space that brings HD video, audio, and content-sharing to a cinematic video wall, delivering a face-to-face collaboration experience that is as lifelike and natural as if you were in the same room.
Since installing the Polycom immersive video suites, video collaboration has become central to the way Rostelecom communicates throughout the organisation. Enterprise-grade video is now easily and securely accessible to all authorized personnel and has transformed islands of employees and fragmented communications systems into facilitating teamwork and a seamless enterprise. For its 170,000 employees based around seven regional sites, sharing and discussing information instantly and making decisions quickly face-to-face via secure, high-definition video collaboration is vital to its business success.
The Polycom video solutions, powered by the Polycom RealPresence Platform, were designed and deployed by Polycom partner NVision Group as part of a project to provide Rostelecom with a high-definition UC&C video collaboration solution that would seamlessly tie into other room collaboration technologies and meet conferencing requirements. Key requirements for Rostelecom included a secure and reliable video conferencing solution that would enable employees, who work in different cities, to easily meet and resolve operational issues, from any place and at any time.
“The robustness of the Polycom RealPresence Platform allows Rostelecom to organize video conferences with a large number of participants, as well as to add subscribers from public switched telephone networks (PSTN) and cellular networks of different operators to the conference call,” said General Director of NVision Group Alexey Tarasenko. “This is a practical implementation of the principle ‘business on the move,’ a highly relevant one for companies with a broad geographic reach. I think in the near future Rostelecom will not only use the network for its own purposes, but will also offer it to their customers as a new convenient service.”
“The Polycom RealPresence Platform made it possible to create a single telecommunications network, which offers Rostelecom the opportunity to exchange audio, video and content between a large number of participants,” said Sergey Khomyakov, Polycom Vice President in Russia and CIS. “Rostelecom’s employees can initiate meetings with one click and gather together colleagues in the same room, even if they are thousands of miles apart.”
