Crestron DM NVX AV-Over-IP: 7 State-of-the-Art Projects

As Crestron closes in on shipping one million DM NVX® AV-over-IP products, we look at seven recent projects that integrate the technology brilliantly

Jan. 3, 2024  - How much is a million? Here's one example: If you took one million US dollar bills and laid them end to end, the chain of cash would stretch for 96.9 miles — roughly the distance from Manhattan to the Hamptons out on Long Island. Piling those same bills vertically would yield a stack well taller than a 30-story building.

Speaking of one million: Crestron is rapidly approaching that very number of DM NVX® AV-over-IP units that will have been shipped since the product's introduction.

The reason: DM NVX AV-over-IP solutions are incredibly versatile — not to mention reliable. Here's a peek at just a few of the thousands of projects that feature DM NVX technology — seven, to be precise. We'll look at solutions from business, education, government, hospitality, assisted living, marine, and residential installations.

Business: Corning Optical Communications

Corning turned to Crestron for the technology to power its Optical Communications building as that division of the company became its largest, and DM NVX technology was deployed throughout the sprawling headquarters.

"Our space is very flexible. It can change on a daily basis — DM NVX allowed us to transform our spaces, no matter what the requirement was." — Robert Basile, Senior Solution Architect, Corning

The 168-year-old Fortune 500® company grew from a manufacturer that created the glass for Thomas Edison's early incandescent light bulbs to a worldwide innovator of a variety of products — including optical communications cabling and other solutions. As the enterprise expands from its primary corporate HQ in Upstate New York, it needs new buildings — and this 180,000-square-foot Optical Communications headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of their most advanced.

"The DM NVX platform allows us to route or broadcast content all over the building. So if we're in a meeting space that's not large enough to handle everyone, we can broadcast that exact same content to multiple rooms around the building." — Brian Davis, Director of Market Development, Corning

Residential: An Italian Villa

When you're bringing an 18th-century Tuscan mansion into the modern age, you don't have much room for cables. That's why AV integrator Sereni Elettronica selected Crestron DM NVX AV-over-IP technology for this luxury home.

"Crestron technology allowed us to make a complex question into a simple solution." — Daniele Sereni, Co-owner, Sereni Elettronica

What began as a project retrofitting a single room, this technology update eventually spanned the entire property, so ease of control was vital. With each source having a 4K output, the homeowner simply needs to move the icon on their tablet to create a side-by-side, picture-in-picture display. Crestron DM NVX technology delivers every scene with zero latency and seamless content distribution, all of which are easily edited by the homeowner from a single tablet.

"We had used other systems in the past, but Crestron is definitely the best." — The homeowner

Education: Esports at UNC Greensboro

An esports program is more than team competition or entertainment for a student body. It's also a great way to introduce students to a variety of disciplines, from computer programming to management and even broadcasting. When UNC Greensboro undertook the creation of a 3,300 square-foot arena with 48 gaming PCs and three gaming console bays, they asked Horizon AVL and Esports Integration to create a Crestron solution.

"The flexibility, reliability, and ease of use is why my team decided to install DM NVX technology in the UNCG Esports Center." — Joshua Kell, Chief Executive Officer, Horizon AVL and Esports Integration

As the case study notes,

Crestron DM NVX routes audio and video to create scenic elements in their game bases. The several game bays hold various consoles that can be plugged into the wall and displayed on the corresponding TV for each game bay, which is immediately routed with a Crestron DM NVX encoder. Crestron DM NVX was also introduced into the broadcast system to have full 4K broadcasting that converts the HDMI® signal to SDI, so broadcasting and streaming can happen simultaneously with very low latency.

Hospitality: Hotel Bania Thermal & Ski

There's a hotel at the foot of Poland's incredibly scenic Tatra Mountains, a four-star family-run complex with 277 rooms, two restaurants, thermal baths, and a world-class conference center. A recent renovation demanded a state-of-the-art AV solution that required minimal cabling, and a Crestron DM NVX AV-over-IP system installed by the firm A+V filled the bill.

"Thanks to the functionalities offered by Crestron's DM NVX AV-over-IP technology, an impressive conference space was established in one of the most beautiful locations in Poland." —Jaroslaw Kolcun, CEO, A+V

The conference room, for example, needed multiple displays to ensure that meeting attendees could see presentations from any angle — and DM NVX technology handles the task with zero latency. Customers and their guests can tailor the system to their needs, helping turn the resort into a true business-meets-pleasure destination — and raising the area's visibility as a vacation wonderland.

"We've had immensely positive feedback about the Crestron technology from our customers, which we're gladly seeing translate into more inquiries — and reservations!" — Tomasz Rzadkosz, Events Manager, Hotel Bania Thermal & Ski

Assisted Living: Fellowship Senior Living

One of the things that sets the Fellowship Living Life Plan Community apart from its competitors is its approach to providing full amenities — after all, just because someone's in a senior care facility doesn't mean they shouldn't have access to all of the benefits of modern technology.

"By outfitting these new spaces with advanced, unified technology, we are able to eliminate any daily complications and offer our elders and team members a seamless experience." — John Dalton, Principal Consultant, IT Initiatives, Inc.

As the campus expands, it's grown to include an expansive fitness center, salon and spa, medical suites, and more. All those spaces have been outfitted with Crestron DM NVX technology for best-in-class content distribution across the entire community. The solutions, integrated by the firm IT Initiatives, Inc., also help residents stream live events and religious services into their individual residences. It's all part of a complete package of Crestron solutions designed for maximum ease of use.
